I definitely didn't wait to be where I am a year subsequently graduating college. I idea I would have a flake more figured out. I idea I would be on a more direct path in life. I idea at the very least I'd be in the field I wanted to be in, making plans to move out of my house, have some money saved. Only none of that is true, and it really isn't true for near people in my position. We expect so much from life and from ourselves after college that when it doesn't happen, we experience defeated.

I have no idea when anything is going to actually happen for me. Only at present that I'm at this point in my life, I'chiliad embracing it. I'm embracing the chaos, the dubiousness, the unknown. If you lot don't, if you accept high expectations for your time to come, naught will ever exist good enough. Considering nothing volition always turn out the way you want it to. So here are 10 things to proceed in listen in the years after yous graduate college.

ane. Y'all won't accept your dream chore.

Unless you take crazy connections or an internship at a identify that you love beforehand, chances are you are not landing your dream chore. You are fresh out of college, you desperately need work, and you have little to no experience. So there's no possible way you lot can step into a publishing house and become one of their best editors (*sigh* I wish). Every job opportunity you lot accept is a stepping stone to help go y'all to that fantasy job. Don't be discouraged just because you lot aren't at that place right away.

2. Or your dream bacon.

This differs for some people, but realistically when yous get an entry-level job correct out of college, you won't exist making nearly as much as you would like to exist. Subsequently higher, that first paycheck will seem huge . Y'all will feel similar the richest person on the planet. Just you quickly come to find that those paychecks are hard to save and way also piece of cake to spend.

3. Y'all'll well-nigh likely still live with your parents.

After having freedom for iv years, away from parents and rules and expectations, yous're of a sudden an developed thrown dorsum into your childhood. And you'll exist forced to stay there… for a while . I thought I'd exist living with my friends or in my own apartment, enjoying the perks of adulthood. But nope. Yous'll be back fighting with your Mom about chores and be greeted with an assortment of questions every time you come up habitation. Not to mention it's pretty incommunicable to have one dark stands. (Maybe that's a practiced thing?)

iv. You won't have equally much money saved as you lot predictable.

I pretty much thought I would have thousands saved up by the time a year passed subsequently graduation. Oh how naïve I once was. This isn't college where your parents can transfer or send yous over some coin or yous can use their "emergency" credit menu or whatever. Yous actually have to commencement paying for shit yourself, and if you take student loans, you'll take an even bigger hit when it comes to saving. I've saved cypher in a year. Like, aught . And that's fine, considering I will.

5. The real world sucks a lot more yous idea.

When you're in higher, you lot are e'er envisioning the real earth . Yous can't await to merely be finished with school, classes, studying, and blacking out every weekend. You lot look forward to being a real adult where yous go to a fabulous task from 9-five and go to piece of work happy hours where rich guys in suits buy you cocktails and invite you back to their penthouse and yous have the freedom to do what you lot want because you're an adult. NO. The existent world is a common cold, harsh place. And you are just thrown into it completely blind and unprepared.

six. You lot'll never really be ready for what comes your way.

You'll never be prepared for a big change, an epic decision. You might think you're stuck for a while only something amazing and unexpected will come along. And just considering y'all didn't see it coming doesn't mean you should run away from it. Similar I said, I didn't look to exist where I am at this point in my life. Only I am, and my next footstep might be but equally random and unforeseen. I'1000 non going to let the doubt of the future make me cower from information technology. You but have to gyre with the punches.

7. Dating is nearly impossible.

When yous were in college, the dating puddle was an body of water. You were surrounded past immature, attractive people in the same stage of life, who almost probable had the same habits as you. They were everywhere – walking the streets, on campus, in bars, everywhere . You hit a brick wall out of college. How practise yous run across someone who is a nail to hang with, is genuinely squeamish, and is close to your historic period? Non to mention with a good task and on the right path? All of those dating apps are a piddling terrifying when information technology comes to finding a real boyfriend or girlfriend. And so yous're left to trolling the bars. Which tin can exist fifty-fifty more terrifying. So… yous feel pretty helpless and totally convinced that yous'll never observe someone.

8. You feel completely stuck.

Yous feel like you lot should be doing more, seeing more than, be somewhere completely different. You feel like you're in a oestrus, like you lot've officially sold out and are now working for "the man" like everyone else in the world. Subsequently college, while trying to discover yourself and discover what you want to do with your life, it'due south impossible non to get a little stuck. Information technology seems like everyone around you has their shit figured out while you're merely lost, floating in limbo. It's okay . This is normal. And you won't feel stuck forever.

9. You're officially a lightweight.

You went from drinking almost every dark of the week (heavily) to barely at all. You observe that most a yr after college graduation, yous tin barely hang after a few beers. Your college self would be extremely disappointed. What's fifty-fifty worse most suddenly becoming a lightweight are the hangovers you experience. I used to be able to beat a bottle to my face and wake up the adjacent morning ready to do activities (or drink more). Now after a dark of rampage-drinking (I sound like a Mom) I can't motion from my bed for a full 24 hours.

10. This is all totally fine.

If y'all don't have a ill job, a skillful salary, an apartment, a beau, and tons of cash saved with your life on track, don't stress. You have no idea how many people are in the same situation as you. Simply considering you had this m scheme in your head for your future earlier you fifty-fifty graduated doesn't mean it's actually going to play out in reality. Exist patient and trust that things are going to work out equally they should. They always do. Thought Catalog Logo Mark
